Which work lights should I choose?

Which work lights should I choose?

When choosing work lights, it is important to choose lights according to area of use. Work System offers several different LED lights that suits different types of vehicles and areas of use.

Different Types of Work Lights

If you are using the light while working around the vehicle, a wide-beam light with shorter range is preferred, such as Work Vision Square 24W LED. To minimize the risk of glare, the lamp should preferably have a large illuminated surface and not a narrow beam (spot), which is intended for long-distance lighting. Since you are often facing the lamp, it may otherwise cause more glare than benefit. It can also be important not to have overly powerful work lighting, as it can significantly reduce your night vision when moving outside the illuminated area. Place the light high and angled downward to minimize disturbance and reduce shadows on the ground. We also recommend always installing at least two lights with a spacing of at least 60 cm, as it is otherwise easy to block the light with your body. If you want additional lighting, a headlamp is a good complement.

If you instead use the light while driving, you should have stronger and more focused lighting. In that case, Work Vision Square 40W LED is a good option. However, keep in mind that the light may cause glare if you are outside the vehicle and moving toward it.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN IT COMES TO WORK LIGHTS

It is important to note that work lights must not be used in traffic, as they may dazzle other road users. If you intend to use them as reverse lights (i.e., automatically turning on when reversing), they must be ECE R23 approved and not mounted higher than 120 cm from the ground. The reverse light must be adjusted so that it does not dazzle other drivers, which can happen if it is mounted too high, for example on the roof.

If you need good lighting while driving, it may be better to connect the lights to a switch and activate them when needed. Utility companies often use motorized searchlights that can be controlled from inside the vehicle, for example to follow power lines.

PLACEMENT OF WORK LIGHTS

When installing work lights on a vehicle, it is preferable to mount them on a roof rack, roof bar, or in a fixed mounting point if placed externally on the roof. This avoids drilling holes in the vehicle roof, which should always be a last resort and only done with the owner’s approval.

OUR PRODUCTS

WORK VISION SLIM 32W

Article number: 921-WL-SL-32W
This lamp is compact and flexible thanks to its small rectangular design and can be recessed into, for example, a bumper using the included mounting frame. It is ideal for work close to the vehicle with a wide beam that does not reach far (1 lux at 49 meters flood beam). Also recommended for mounting under a bumper as a reverse light, as it is approved for this use.

If mounted on the roof, it should be positioned high enough to allow downward angling without hitting the roof – for example on a roof rack.

NOTE! Also available with integrated warning light – WORK VISION WARNING SLIM

INSTALLATION OF WORK LIGHTS

INDICATOR LIGHT AND SWITCH

All types of work lighting mounted externally on the vehicle must have a yellow indicator light with a steady glow, clearly visible from the driver's seat, which is activated when the work lighting is turned on. This is to ensure that you do not forget to switch it off when the vehicle leaves the worksite. It is not necessary to install a separate indicator light, as it is sufficient to have a diode in the button (switch) that activates the work lighting.

Cabling

Cabling for work lighting MUST be selected based on the power consumption of the lights, and the requirements may vary depending on the lamps. The cable should run from the vehicle's battery to a fuse and switch, and then on to the light (work lighting).

Standard

Can power up to 2 lamps with a maximum of 24 W each. If the cable is overloaded, heat is generated which may result in fire. The cable can handle double the power if shortened to half its length.

Branching

1.6 METER Y-SPLITTER WITH 2-PIN DT CONNECTORS (KBFL-2L-1.5-DT-160)
4 METER Y-SPLITTER WITH 2-PIN DT CONNECTORS (KBFL-2L-15-DT-400)

If you are installing 2 lamps and want to control the work lights with the same switch, a splitter cable is required. Since the distance between the lamps may vary, you can choose between 1.6 or 4 meters.
